Hunting the Higgs
The discovery of the Higgs Boson was one of the greatest achievements of modern science, but could you have made it for yourself?
In this unique, comedic, fast-paced, musical and highly interactive show, you will get the chance to try! You will control the legendary Large Hadron Collider and compete against a team of expert particle physicists! You will have direct access to LHC data. You will be at the cutting edge of particle physics. You will be particle physicists for the day. Through a series of physical, mental and app-based games, you will undertake all the scientific steps required to discover the elusive Higgs Boson. The entire process will be guided by Dr Sam Gregson, and accompanied by the musical and comedic stylings of geek pop sensation and “Britain’s Got Talent” contestant, Jonny Berliner!
So, do you have what it takes to hunt the Higgs?

The lecture will be held in the Large Lecture Theatre of the Poynting Physics Building on the University's Edgbaston campus (https://campusmap.bham.ac.uk//search/5d6f49241e1f64009327afb0). The show is suitable for families, students and adults.
About Dr Gregson:
I am a Dr of particle physics formerly of the University and Cambridge and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Geneva. At the LHC, I looked into the mysteries of anti-matter to attempt to answer the greatest question of all: "Why are we here?" I also have a strong background in scientific outreach and comedy and have performed shows at the Royal Institution, Cheltenham Festival and even project managed and performed in CERN's first-ever scientific stand-up evening: LHComedy: CERN After Dark. Particle physics is an amazing, fascinating, exhilarating subject and I want to show everyone that they can understand it and find a place within it. That's what the Hunting the Higgs shows and workshops are all about.
Come join me and let me show you just how fun and engaging particle physics and particle physicists can be!
