Science Alive is a science outreach event, organised and run by student volunteers from The University of Sheffield Student’s Union. It takes place every year and aims to showcase the work of STEM societies and groups at the University of Sheffield to primary-aged children and their families.

This year, the event will take place on the 16th of March 2025 in Firth Hall, inside the Firth Court building at the University of Sheffield. Fourteen societies will deliver a variety of science-related table-top activities within the hall, and we are super pleased with all our societies have come up with! From snap circuits to wind turbines, there will be something for everyone!

This year we are going to have a wide range of activities, including Teddy Bear Hospital, planting grass heads, and magnet chess!

Our aim is to make science accessible to as many children as possible, so we are collaborating with Children's University, a programme that helps children to attend educational events and accumulate credits to graduate from the Children’s University. Our event is a Learning Destination that allows children who are part of the programme to add credits to their Passport to Learning. To find out more about the CU, you can follow the link here: https://www.childrensuniversity.co.uk/

The event will be run in time slots, so please book a ticket only for the ONE slot that you wish to attend. You will have 1.5 hours to enjoy the activities at the event! You have four time slots to choose from:

Time slot 1: 10 to 11:30 AM

Time slot 2: 11:30 to 1 PM

Time slot 3: 1 to 2:30 PM

Time slot 4: 2:30 to 4 PM

Please arrive on time for the slot you have booked on to. The event is usually booked out and we will not be able to accommodate you at a separate slot than the one you are booked for. We thank you for your understanding.

ALL tickets represent ONE CHILD attending the venue. Please select the number of children that will be with you, including all children in prams. Accompanying adults do not need to book a ticket. Please do not book more tickets than you need, as tickets are in high demand.

The closest tram stop is University of Sheffield. If you are arriving by car, we unfortunately don't have any of our own parking spots however there is a Q-park next to the Childrens' Hospital and a very short walk from Firth Court (postcode for this is S10 2JA).

For any additional info or requirements, or if you wish to discuss any accessibility needs please contact us at sciencealive@sheffield.ac.uk.
