The Cowboy Economist: Riding Through the Wild Frontier of Economic Thought

Join Professor John T. Harvey — better known as The Cowboy Economist — for a fast-paced tour through the wide-open plains of economic ideas that rarely get airtime in the mainstream. Drawing from his book Contending Perspectives in Economics, Harvey will compile insights from Post-Keynesians, Marxists, Institutionalists, Feminists, Ecological economists, and others — each offering a distinct perspective on how our economies actually function.

This session will explore why these alternative schools matter, what they reveal about the limitations of conventional economics, and why many of their insights have been overlooked or sidelined. Expect sharp analysis, straight talk, and a lively conversation about what economics could look like if we let more voices into the room.
