This course is suitable for both new entrant and experienced crofters.
Have you been asking yourself:-
- How can I make my croft more sustainable:- economically & environmentally?
- What resources are available to support me?
Answers to these and other questions in our intensive, in-person, interactive two day training course.
Programme includes (full programme details will be confirmed nearer the time):
- Planning sessions - where do you see your croft in five years time and what support do you need to get there?
- Rural Payments & Inspections Division - a representative from the local RPID office will be coming along to talk about what funding is available, how to access it, and changes in the agricultural payment system (e.g. the Whole Farm Plan). A chance to ask all your burning funding questions!
- Talks on topics such as habitat management, creating woodland, and more....
- A visit to David and Izzy at Croft Seventeen to learn about their many and varied crofting activities:-
New entrant crofters, acquiring a bare land croft about 3 years ago.
Now have 22 acres having bought the house and another croft next door after 2 years in a caravan.
Infrastucture installed:- fencing, a Polycrub growing most of our own food, livestock shed etc .
Croft Woodland scheme in progress.
Breed Soay rare breed sheep. Acquiring blackface flock this summer.
Started Highland cattle fold on grazings, first heifers to calf 2027.
Produce and sell eggs.
Provide croft services, faecel worm egg counts and equine services.
Have own art gallery on croft and agritourism diversification in progress:- accommodation and croft tours.
