When Scotland buys from the world, what responsibility do we have for the people who make the things we consume?

The session will connect everyday products - coffee, cocoa, clothing, electronics - to the human rights realities behind global supply chains. It will introduce audiences to Fair Trade as part of the solution, while opening up the wider conversation on business, human rights and environmental due diligence, and Scotland’s emerging responsible business framework.

This event is designed for businesses, government, civil society and Global South producers to come together and discuss how Scotland can be a Good Global Citizen in practice, not just in principle.

Format: Panel discussion chaired by Scottish Fair Trade with an audience Q&A, followed by a light lunch and informal discussion/networking.

Speakers:

  • Yasmina Ferrigan, Co-Ordinator & Business Manager, Hadeel;
  • Martin Rhodes MP;
  • James Hughes, Founder, Brewgooder;
  • Lexi Parfitt, Director of Public & Political Engagement, Water Witness;
  • Maria Doreen Chiponde, Manager, Kibebe (Malawi) and Chair of Scottish Fair Trade's Global South Liaison Committee.
  • Panel chair: Jeannie Morgan, Trustee, Scottish Fair Trade.

Location: Grassmarket Community Project, 86 Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh EH1 2QA.
