Writing While Mothering

Write every day. Find a room of your own. Most writing advice doesn't feel relevant when you're overwhelmed with care work.

This session will explore the history of excluding mothering and domestic work from literary and artistic practice. We'll look at writers and artists who have resisted this tradition, as we consider our own assumptions about creativity, the writing process, and finished works. As we experiment with strategies and prompts for writing while mothering, we will also discuss the delicate balance between protecting our creative practice and embracing new methods and forms that feel more sustainable.
