Memoir As a Window, Not a Summary...
Memoir often involves writing about people, as well as ourselves. So how do we navigate question of story ownership, permission, and responsibility? And what separates a compelling memoir from a simple retelling of events?
In this generative memoir workshop, we'll explore permission-to-tell, story ownership, and the deeper motivations behind personal writing. Together, we'll examine how to identify the moments that carry the most emotional weight and shape them into stories with focus and purpose. Through short readings, writing exercises, and brief group sharing, participants will practice writing with honesty, clarity, and confidence while learning to trust their own perspective on the page. Readings will include work by Maya Angelou, Emily Bernard, Melissa Febos, Alexander Chee, and others.
