Karl Jenkins: The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace

This stirring musical work was originally commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds for the Millennium celebrations in 2000 and was dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis. In our continuingly turbulent world it remains as relevant as ever. It is essentially an anti-war piece based on the Catholic Mass, but incorporating words from other religious and historical sources, including the Islamic call to prayer, the Bible and the Mahabharata. Whilst charting the growing menace of a decent into war, it ends with the hope for peace when "sorrow, pain and death can be overcome".
