Mozart's Requiem Mass and other choral works

In this concert the Choral Society will be performing Mozart's Requiem Mass, along with two other Mozart works - Benedictus Sit Deus and Ave Verum Corpus.  The Requiem Mass is widely regarded as a choral masterpiece because of the emotional and dramatic intensity of the music and the mysterious, tragic circumstances of its creation (it was commissioned anonymously by Count Franz von Walsegg-Stuppach, who intended to pass it off as his own work, composed when Mozart was very ill, and  left unfinished at his death at the age of 35 in 1791). 

It promises to be a very special evening, not just because of the music, but also because it will be our Chorusmaster, the brilliant Susan Hollingworth's, final major concert on the conductor's podium.
