Dr Kay Guccione (University of Glasgow, UK), Dr Sian Vaughan (Birmingham City University, UK), Tasha Kitano (Queensland University of Technology, Australia) and Prof. Rachel Spronken-Smith (University of Otago, New Zealand/Aotearoa) host a monthly reading group on Zoom, especially for the research supervisor developer community.

NOTE: this is a reading group best suited to members who are researcher developers, or academic developers, or academic staff with a remit or interest in developing good cultures of supervision.

Paper:

Oyinloye B,. and Wakeling P.B.J. (2026), British supervisors’ conceptions of ideal and successful PhD attributes and their implications for equity in doctoral candidate selection. Studies in Graduate and Postdoctoral Education, Vol. 17 No. 1 pp. 38–53, doi: https://doi.org/10.1108/SGPE-11-2023-0105

Our intention for the group is to host is a collegial meeting of the supervisor development community across disciplines and role types, and to support each other to engage with the literature regularly. Our meetings have been consciously designed to be developmental, inclusive and cooperative.
