Woodcut with Peter Brown (4 week course)
Woodcut with Peter Brown (4 week course)
German Expression Wood Cut with Peter Brown
This course runs over 4 Saturdays in June - 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. 9.30am -12.30pm
One of the great attractions of woodcut to the artist/printmaker is the directness of its making. From drawing to print, there is very little process apart from cutting.
Woodcuts create powerful images. This is partly due to their strongly black and white nature, but also down to their simplicity. The wood, with its open grain, copes poorly with any more than just a little detail, so the images remain refreshingly uncomplicated. This strong black and white contrast together with the lack of sophistication results in images that appear bold and simply told.
In addition, when cut with gouges, knives and chisels, the wood will often split and tear, creating edges and outlines with a rough and highly expressive quality. This characteristic imparts a liveliness as well as a coarseness throughout the print.
Examples of this can be found in German Expressionist woodcuts... please take a look and be inspired.

Accessibility
Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Seacourt Print Workshop is on street level, and is accessible through the front doors in a wheelchair. It is fully wheelchair accessible, larger than standard doors and disabled toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at info@seacourt-ni.org.uk to discuss any concerns you may have before booking.
