During the four Saturday mornings you will be guided through the process of making your own multicolour relief print. The beauty of the jigsaw technique is that it enables you to make a multicolour print while avoiding the often fiddly process of registration.

The entire process is easy to follow and quick to learn. For those wishing to acquire a simple and effective way of making a multicolour print, this is a great choice. The material we will be using and cutting will be soft cut vinyl, which is a more sympathetic material to cut than lino.

Course description.

• We will spend the first week looking at the drawing from which you wish to make your print. Please bring more than one drawing to choose from. The maximum size of your drawing will be 27 x 17 cm. Your drawing does not necessarily need to touch the sides of that measure.

• Weeks two and three will be spent cutting your vinyl. Towards the end of this period you will cut apart, in a jigsaw manner, elements of the picture which require inking in different colours; for example a red car, a blue house and a green tree.

• The final week will be printing week. Here the separated parts – car, house, tree – will be inked in their chosen colours, then reassembled before printing together at the same time in the printing press.

Please bring to the class at least two drawings from which you would like to make a print. Also bring drawing equipment and any reference imagery you may need. A sharp craft knife, with a fine blade, will be an asset for this course. For printing you will need to bring protective clothing and a pair of gloves to protect your fingers from ink and cleaning products.

Entry level.

This course is suitable for those who have done some linocut before. It is perfect for those who have completed any of these Seacourt courses: Introduction to Lino or The Fundamentals of Print stages 1 or 2.

If during the course you move quickly and wish to use additional material to make a second print there will be more vinyl available, which you can buy.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund. Please refer to full terms and conditions here.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Seacourt Print Workshop is on street level, and is accessible through the front doors in a wheelchair. It is fully wheelchair accessible, larger than standard doors and disabled toilet facilities.
