Seaweed and Botanical Pressing Workshop

Join Cape Cod artist, educator and naturalist Stephanie King for an introductory level workshop into the world of designing collages with pressed and preserved seaweed and botanicals. Your nature art journey starts here. Stephanie will guide you through the fundamentals of ethical foraging of wild plants and marine algae. Seaweed and garden flowers are renewable resources that can be harvested responsibly. Together, we will experiment with locally sourced natural materials to create your own collages that can be used as journal entries, gift cards or simply framed. Collecting seaweed that has washed ashore is a lovely way to enjoy nature and create art with very little environmental impact. This art form is a wonderful way to preserve your garden and seaside memories alike.

The first portion of the workshop will involve an introduction and a demonstration. The second portion will involve getting your hands wet with real drift seaweed. The third portion will include using pressed and preserved botanicals and seaweed from Stephanie's collection to create your own nature art collage.

The cost of the workshop is $40. Includes all materials and instruction. Limited capacity: Attendance is capped at 12 participants.

Feel free to come early, grab your seat and browse the shop. An assortment of wine will be available to sample and sip. Snacks will be available to purchase throughout class; specialty cheese, meat, crackers, tinned fish, and chocolate (OH MY!). Dunn & Sons specializes in selecting wines from small producers with an emphasis on sustainable farming practices, most of which being organic and/or biodynamic. CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY: Seaside Botanical Art does not issue refunds for cancellations or no shows unless the workshop is cancelled by the organizer due to low enrollment. In this case, SBA will notify you within one week of the workshop date and offer the option for refund or the option to transfer your registration to another workshop date in 2024.

PLEASE NOTE: Although this is an intro level workshop, it is geared towards adults, but can be enjoyed and joined by older children/teens. You are welcome to get a ticket for your child/teen if you are comfortable with people around them having a drink or two. We ask that a ticketed adult accompany anyone under the age of 16 at all times.
