SWIMMING REQUIREMENTS
Swimmers need a brightly coloured swimming cap or colourful bobble hat (for any head-up swimmers). You won’t be able to swim in a dark or black swimming cap. Swimmers are required to wear a brightly coloured tow float. No tow float, no entry. We recommend the enviro-friendly range from Ulu tow floats. You'll also need to place a torch in the tow float, with fresh batteries. There’s no way of knowing how ‘fresh’ the batteries are. We’ll be satisfied provided the torch works before/during entry.
Each swimmer has to arrive at a designated time and attend registration. If you arrive late they may not be permitted to swim. A safety briefing will be conducted at registration. Swimmers will be told where they can swim, will be informed of the safety procedures, of the entry/exit point, first aid point and any additional information they’ll need to know. Swimmers will be counted in and out of the water, at the designated entry point. On exit, swimmers will be ticked off the register. If a swimmer exits the water at any stage, they will not be permitted to re-enter the water.
Swimmers have up to 30 minutes. They’ll be informed where they’re permitted to swim and where they’re not permitted to swim. The water safety team will be spaced out, to cover the entire swimming area. They’ll be on rescue boards and have head torches and additional back-up torches.
SUSTAINABILITY / ENVIRO-IMPACT
Whilst glow sticks do add to the fun and atmosphere of a swim like this, they're also single use plastic and create chemical waste. We would discourage the use of glow sticks and similar single use items at this swim. You're more than welcome to bring more environmental friendly alternatives.
ACCOMMODATION
We'd recommend staying at Via ferratta Campsite (which is on the BF Adventures site - where the night swim takes place). The campsite (TR10 9BX) is right in the middle of the potential swims we're looking to carry out, there's a cafe on-site, makes the night swim nice and convenient and the campsite is only available to Sea Swim Cornwall's swimmers, as it's typically shut this time of year! Another option open to groups bookings only are the cabins. These are very affordable (at £50 per night) and straight forward cabins on-site, that offer bunk beds. Offering a comfortable bed, BYO pillow and bedding. Ideal for small to large groups of friends (max capacity 12). Bernadette can give you more info regarding both.
Copy-and-pasted from Via Ferratta's website : We have enough facilities to keep you comfortable, including a washing-up area, clean toilets and hot showers.
The nearest supermarket is just a 10-minute drive away and you can enjoy a BBQ on our beautiful site. If you’d prefer to let someone else do the cooking, there is a Café on-site which is run by The Cornish Barista and serves delicious breakfasts, brunch, lunch and cakes, with vegan options.
We also have free Wi-Fi, although with our nature and adventure activities, this is the place for a digital detox!
