We’ve decided to add a ‘Dash for Cash’ event (of sorts) to our summer activity for 2022, that gives all swimmers a chance to win the event.

Entry and booking is £14 per head. We’ll provide water safety and time your effort. You can swim individually, as a pair or a small group. You can book a swimming slot as often as you like during 2022. The event is handicapped (with the time differences based on the national Master Champs records (pre-Covid), over 800m and the current South West regional qualifying times for the open category)…based on age and gender. We took the average time per 100m over the 800m records and multiplied it by nine, to cover the 900m course.

The Swim Route :

Carbis Bay - from a set point on the cliffs on the way to Porthkidney, across Carbis Bay, touching the headland on the west side of the beach. The swim is 900m (depending on where you touch the headland and how straight you swim!). Booking : simply book a swim at Carbis on a day of your choosing or we’ll publish set days that we’ll encourage efforts.

Prize : £100 for the overall winner, plus an additional £1 for each person that enters ie. 100 entrants over the summer, the prize will be £100 + an additional £100 = £200.

HANDICAP/ADVANTAGE (times below) explained : If you’re male 16-29 you end up with the exact time you swim. Females 19-29 end up with the time they achieve minus 21 seconds. So they effectively have a 21 second head start over the males in the same age group. Males 30-34 have the equivalent of a 16 second head start on the male 16-29 age group and females 30-34 would have the equivalent of a 29 second head start. If you looked at males and females (30-34 yrs category) the females are -39 seconds and males -16 seconds, meaning that a female in this age category would have a 23 second head start over a male participant in the same age group….
