Make a Mid-Century Footstool
A One-Day Beginner-Friendly Upholstery Workshop
Curious about upholstery but not sure where to begin? This one-day, in-person workshop is a friendly, hands-on introduction where you’ll make your own mid-century style upholstered footstool from scratch using modern techniques and take it home ready to use.
Tutored by upholsterer Rebecca Subido of Selvedge Edge Upholstery, this class is suitable for absolute beginners and those with a little experience. Sewing experience is a bonus, but not essential.
This workshop acts as a great introduction to modern upholstery and a solid foundation for future projects.
What you’ll learn
- Modern upholstery methods
- Basics of footstool construction
- Using a pneumatic staple gun, foam cutter, and spray adhesive
- How to plan cutting your fabric
- Making piping using an industrial sewing machine
- Optional buttoning
- How to plan future projects and recreate the stool at home
What’s included
All materials for your stool (45cm x 35cm frame, mid-century style tapered legs, foam, wadding, fixings), use of tools and equipment, tea and coffee, and your finished footstool to take home.
What to bring
- 1 metre of your chosen fabric
- Apron or overalls
- Your own tools if you’d like (optional)
