Bring Your Own Upholstery Project
A Two-Day Upholstery Class
Have you got a piece of furniture you wish looked different or that just doesn’t quite fit your space anymore? This two-day, in-person workshop is designed for students who want to bring their own project and transform it with guided, hands-on support.
You’ll work at your own pace with expert tuition, and leave with real progress made on your piece.
Tutored by upholsterer Rebecca Subido of Selvedge Edge Upholstery, this class is suitable for those with some basic upholstery experience or confident beginners with a suitable project.
This workshop is ideal for building skills while working on something personal and hands-on.
What you’ll learn
Because every project is different, tuition is tailored to your individual piece. You’ll receive support in areas such as:
- Modern upholstery techniques
- Stripping back and rebuilding furniture
- Measuring, planning, and cutting materials accurately
- Using staple guns, adhesives, and upholstery tools safely and effectively
- Layering foam, wadding, and fabrics
- Finishing techniques and detailing
What’s included
Use of all tools and workshop equipment, including pneumatic staple guns, foam cutters, and other specialist upholstery tools, plus full tutor support throughout the weekend.
Materials such as calico, webbing, foam, wadding, and fixings are not included. These will be supplied as required and charged at the end of the workshop.
What to bring
- Your own piece of furniture
- Your chosen fabric (I can help you calculate how much is required)
- Any trims or finishing materials (if required)
- Apron or overalls
Once you’ve booked your place, please send through photos of the furniture piece you’d like to work on. Seeing the piece beforehand helps me advise on materials, plan for the workshop, and make sure the project is well suited to the two-day class so you can get the most from your weekend.
Please email clear photographs, a brief description, and measurements of your furniture to hello@selvedge-edge.co.uk. If your original idea isn’t quite right for the time frame, I’ll happily suggest adjustments or alternative options that will work well within the class.
Suitable pieces are typically small to medium-sized items such as dining chairs, footstools, and small occasional chairs. Larger or more complex pieces including sofas, wing chairs, or sprung antiques are generally not suited to this workshop format.
While some projects may be completed over the two days, others may reach a very advanced stage rather than being fully finished. Reviewing projects in advance helps ensure your piece is well matched to the time frame, giving you the best chance to make excellent progress over the weekend.
