Description
Sussex folk pop meets Louisiana Americana
The first night of a joint UK tour of two very different songwriters bringing something beautiful to each other's songs.
Kris Wilkinson Hughes aka My Girl the River is a Louisiana native who landed in the UK after a decade performing in Nashville. With her ‘sugared espresso’ vocals and sharp writing, Kris is funny, warm and feisty with a sackful of hook laden songs.
She'll be drawing from her recently released and critically acclaimed album 'Songs About Space', a personal collection that travels all the way from the outer edges of the galaxy to a seedy bar in LA.
"stunned by the way she uses her voice.... smooth... but... a dangerously cutting edge... somewhere between Allison Russell, Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell" - Rockin' Magpie
My Girl The River has performed at Black Deer Festival, Isle of Wight, YNot Festival and toured with Laura Cantrell, Darden Smith and Suzanne Vega. She has supported other notable songwriters such as Kim Richey, Bill Morrissey, David Olney, Fred Eaglesmith, Boo Hewerdine, World Party, and Lambchop.
‘A lovely mélange of Americana-Roots music brings to mind works by other fellow alt-country musicians Jason Isbell and Lucinda Williams…. exceptional songwriting. ‘ - ⭑⭑⭑⭑ Paste Magazine

“I am about to utter the most fearsome words in folk,” says Alan Young, aka Serious Child. “This is a song about my grandmother – and it’s a singalong.” - Arts Republic
With a poet’s ear for emotion and a comedian’s eye for detail, Young draws from a wide range of musical styles from folk to pop to bossa nova to explore stories of the everyday.
He'll be drawing from his upcoming fourth album, What Lies Beneath, which features My Girl The River, as well as revisiting previous work to see how British stories change with a touch of American glamour.
“writes about Britain today in a way that is almost tactile… with wit, style, intelligence and bags of melody” ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑ Spiral Earth
