100% of the proceeds benefit Supportive Concepts for Families, Inc. (SCFF). Our Own Home (OOH) who was the previous beneficiary of the Turkey Trot’s fundraising efforts has combined efforts with SCFF, and merged in late 2019 to strengthen their ability to offer even better services to the evolving need in our local communities.
OOH grew tremendously since it was established in 2003 with its ongoing mission to provide support to individuals with mental illness and developmental disabilities with housing, employment, and independent living skills. In 2016 the non-profit increased its reach in the Pittsburgh community to support individuals struggling with addiction. Most recently in 2019, OOH made the strategic decision to merge their growing operations with SCFF, which also had the same passion for empowering individuals.
Now operating as SCFF, the group is able to provide even more of the needed support for individuals to learn new skills, engage in community activities, be included in educational opportunities, enter the workforce, remain healthy and drug- or alcohol-free, or simply to survive through satisfying the most basic needs of housing, food, and clothing. The entire SCFF staff is dedicated to achieving positive results one person at a time.
“Our approach is to accept those we serve as part of our family as we support them in their community, in their schools, in their homes or in homes that we provide for them. Everyone should have the chance to thrive and to experience meaningful relationships.”
We look forward to seeing you back at the park. If you are new to the Trot we look forward to meeting you! Make the Turkey Trot a tradition, work up an appetite while raising money for a great cause!
