The Greater London Student Chapter will give three presentations covering their recent fire research. The presentations are as follows:
Presentation 1: An Insight into Characterising the Hazards of Thermal Runaway in Lithium-ion Batteries.
While dependence on Lithium-ion batteries grows rapidly, we still don't fully understand the characteristics that makes battery fires so dangerous. Is it the heat, the "jet flame", the gases, neither, or all of these? Can we distil this complex tech into a well understood hazard we can control?
Presenter: Sergio K. Caponi
Presentation 2: Review of Post-fire Impacts to Communities in the Wildland-Urban Interface
After a fire takes place in a community, how are its members impacted? For each impact we trace how it manifests over time and critically compare the experimental, computational, data-driven and regulatory methods used to predict, assess and mitigate post-fire recovery.
Presenters: Abdullah Rehman, Marissa Rae Dauner
Presentation 3: Charring in Timber Compartment Fires: Benchmarking physics-based models and the Eurocode
Presenter: Alexander Castagna
Following the event, an area at the TCR Bar has been booked from 8pm onwards.
