Released in 1970, The Rubáiyát of Dorothy Ashby saw one of jazz’s great innovators push the harp into entirely new territory. Drawing together spiritual jazz, soul, psychedelia and sounds from across the world, the album feels remarkably adventurous more than fifty years later.

Across the record, Ashby moves between harp, koto and vocals, surrounded by rich arrangements and hypnotic rhythms. Mysterious, warm and deeply transportive, The Rubáiyát is a beautiful example of an artist following her instrument and imagination somewhere completely her own.
