The Siekopai's art of face painting - cultural practices and traditional symbolism
Sun Feb 21, 2021 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM EST
Online, Zoom
Description
Join us for fascinating teaching by Don Basilio Payaguaje and his family of the Siekopai (Secoya)–the Multi-color people tribe–deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon, with Josep Rosa.
They will discuss and demonstrate the ancient tradition of intricate face painting and pottery decoration at this live broadcast. Each design and line formation have a special meaning to empower or protect the wearier at the Yaje (Plant medicine) ceremony, hunting expedition, or any other life event. They will demonstrate to us the fruits that make the pigment and how to use it.
They are excited to share their ancient jungle traditions. The family wakes up at 4 am to canoe on the Aguarico River and then take a 3 hours bus to a WiFi post to share their rainforest teaching and wisdom with you. Please join us and support them.
This event is also fundraising to help them in this difficult time, so be generous and if you can make a donation. Be advised that we tempt this technological miracle, and reception might be spotty. However, we will do our best, as we did a few months ago.
A recording of the session will be available to all ticket holders for 14 days.
