Do you have holey socks, worn-out jumpers, or favourite clothes in need of a little care? Learn the traditional skill of darning and give your textiles a new lease of life.
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to repair holes, thinning fabric, and worn areas in socks, knitwear and other garments. Suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to build confidence in visible mending. The session will introduce both woven and honeycomb darning techniques, along with the tools, materials and practical tips needed to create repairs that are both durable and attractive.
Bring along an item you'd like to mend, or practise on sample fabrics while learning the techniques. We will provide all the other tools and materials you need however if you want to do an invisible mend on a specific piece please source the matching yarn before attending the course- Wool craft shop on Old Orchard Street has wide variety of yarn and are happy to help people find something appropriate.
Darning is a practical and creative way to extend the life of your clothing, reduce textile waste and embrace a more sustainable approach to fashion. Join us for a relaxed and welcoming workshop and leave with the skills and confidence to keep your favourite clothes in use for years to come.
