Film Screening: The People's Emergency Briefing

You already borrow the drill instead of buying it. Instead of binning it, you bring the broken toaster in for repair and a chat. Together, we are a community of fixers, menders and give-it-a-go-ers. Through sharing, repairing and re-using, we are all reducing carbon, waste and raw materials use.

The People's Emergency Briefing is a film about the same job, on a much bigger scale — and it's not one anybody can tackle on their own.

It breaks down what's happening with our changing climate, what it means for everyday life here in the UK — from rising food prices to human health to national security — and what science says can be done.

There's no jargon and no lecturing. Presented by Chris Packham, it features people who know their stuff — from the NHS to the armed forces — talking plainly about what's heading our way and what we can do. Make of it what you will. Come and hear it for yourself.

Afterwards, we'll put the kettle on and sit down in small groups to talk about what we have heard, what it means for us here in Portsmouth, and what we can actually do about it in our local community of menders and borrowers.

What to expect

• Doors open 1.45pm for a 2pm start
• Approx. 90 minutes, including the 50-minute film and a facilitated group discussion
• Tea, coffee and biscuits provided
• A relaxed, friendly room — no prior knowledge needed
