Shediac, 1811 to 1865, give or take a scandal. For one weekend in May, the Neptune Drive-In grounds become a nineteenth-century society, and you're expected in it.
Three events hold the weekend together. On Saturday night, the Masked Ball. All weekend long, a murder mystery for adults, with a killer somewhere in the crowd and a reveal on Sunday. And the Grand Promenade, where costumes are paraded, judged, and discussed for a year afterward.
Around them, Shediac's own nineteenth-century history, retold with the gossip left in, and a ground whose mood shifts with the hour: refined in the ballroom, gothic after dark, and gloriously absurd wherever the children are. At the gate you're given a House and a reputation to manage.
The only wrong answer is your real name.
Friday's Sand Follies at Parlee Beach, from five o'clock, are included with every ticket.
