New Churches Gathering

Leading or birthing a New Church or Christian community can be a joyous but also exhausting and isolating experience. This morning is an opportunity for you to spend quality time with the growing network of fellow pioneers following similar callings in other places across or affiliated to Sheffield Methodist District.

Our hosts will be Manor Church & Community Project, a Christian charity rooted in Sheffield's Manor Estate. They aim to share the love of God by creating a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone on the Manor, particularly young families and the elderly. MCCP offer community and faith-based activities that address the needs of local residents, including tackling social isolation and deprivation. Through their work in partnership with other organisations and individuals, they challenge inequality and injustice.

Our session will be led by Mark North, our Faith Rooted Community Organising Lead. There is much natural overlap between healthy pioneering and community organising practices. Whatever your level of familiarity with these, we hope this morning will provide some tools to fine tune your practice, language to articulate to those you work alongside, and space for theological reflection.

There will be opportunities to swap stories with other emerging churches, compare what you are learning in a supportive environment, discuss what support you need, and celebrate what God is doing.

This event is for anyone who is involved in leading (in any capacity), or preparing to lead, a new Christian community. Not just the “person in charge”, if you have one.

Please register if you are coming, so we can plan the event and catering accordingly, and do invite other members of your team.

Start – 10:00am (coffee from 9:30am)

Finish – soup lunch from 12:30pm, ending by 1:30pm
