Join Sheffield Transformed for a screening of the acclaimed film Sorry To Bother You, directed by Boots Riley.
The film follows a young Black telemarketer who adopts a 'white voice' to succeed at his job, after which he is swept into a corporate conspiracy and must choose between chasing profit or joining his activist friends who are attempting to unionise.
All profits from ticket sales will be donated to the strike fund for Unite union refuse workers who have been on on continuous strike at Veolia's Sheffield depot for 8 months. They have one simple demand - that their employer recognises their union. You can find more information about the strike here.
One of the striking workers will be at the screening to talk about their experience of the strike. You can also support the workers by signing their petition and submitting this motion to your own trade union branch.
Venue
Broomhall Centre, Broomspring Lane, Sheffield S10 2FD.
The venue is close to tram stops, bus stops and free on-street car parking.
Ticket Pricing
We want as many as people as possible to attend our events and don't want ticket prices to be a barrier. At the same time, we need to raise enough money to cover costs, such as hiring the venue. We've put together a sliding scale of ticket prices so that we can raise the money we need, without pricing anyone out.
When booking a place, we would ask that you select the ticket that you can afford:
- £7 Standard Ticket: This is the default ticket price.
- £9 Solidarity Ticket: If you are comfortable and have a decent income, please consider paying a little more.
- £3 Low Income Ticket: For people on lower incomes who cannot afford the full ticket price.
- No Charge Ticket: For workers on strike and people who have no disposable income at all.
If the dispute is settled before the film screening takes place, all profits from the event will be donated to Unite's Regional Campaign Fund.
