Apple Tree Grafting Course at Sheppy’s Cider

Join us at Sheppy’s Cider for a hands-on apple tree grafting course and learn the traditional skill of fruit tree grafting with expert guidance from George and our experienced guide. This practical workshop is perfect for beginners, gardeners, orchard enthusiasts, and anyone interested in traditional countryside crafts and cider apple growing.

Welcome to the farm with tea and filtered coffee on arrival at 10:30am, with a two hours tuition in our training room

During the course, you will learn:

The history and importance of grafting

How rootstocks and scion woodwork together

Traditional grafting techniques used in cider orchards

How to care for young, grafted trees

Tips for planting and long-term maintenance

A shared lunch of soup and sandwiches at 12:30pm. 

Each participant will have:

Three hours practical in our orchards to create and graft their own apple tree

Receive step-by-step guidance throughout the session

Take home their own grafted potted apple tree to plant and grow at home

Additional tree’s £15.00

What to Bring:

Please come prepared for practical outdoor work. We recommend bringing:

Warm outdoor clothing

Waterproof coat or jacket

Sturdy footwear or wellington boots

Gardening gloves

Secateurs and sharp night

A scion, cutting from home, if you wanted a specific variety of apple

A notebook and pen

Water bottle

All grafting material will be provided.

Whether you are looking to learn a new traditional skill, start your own orchard, or simply enjoy a unique day out at Sheppy’s Cider, this course offers a rewarding and memorable experience.

Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.


Terms and Conditions

1. Tickets All tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable, including transfers to another event. Refunds will only be issued in the event that Sheppy’s Cider Farm cancels the event. Tickets cannot be resold for commercial gain without permission from the event organiser. Lost or stolen tickets cannot be replaced.

2. Outdoor Event & Weather This is an outdoor event on a working cider farm and will go ahead in most weather conditions. Please dress appropriately for outdoor conditions, including uneven ground. No refunds will be issued due to weather conditions unless the event is cancelled by Sheppy’s.

3. Safety & Liability Attendees enter the site at their own risk. The organisers and Sheppy’s Cider Farm accept no responsibility for injury, loss, or damage to personal property, except where caused by negligence. Uneven surfaces, farm equipment, animals, sharp knives, and rural hazards may be present—please take care at all times. Suitable footwear is strongly recommended.

4. Photography & Media Photographs and videos may be taken during the event for promotional purposes. By attending, you consent to being filmed or photographed unless you inform the organiser on arrival.

5. Accessibility as this is a working farm, accessibility may be limited. Please contact the organiser in advance with any specific requirements.

6. Force Majeure The organiser shall not be liable for cancellation or changes due to events beyond reasonable control, including extreme weather, government restrictions, or emergencies.

7. Lost Property The organiser accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen items. Any property found will be held for a limited time after the event.

FAQs

1. Are there any age requirements? This course is designed for adults only. If ask if a teenager is interested in joining the group.

2. How do I get to you? There are a number of ways to get to Sheppy's. Taunton and Wellington are just a short drive from us. We also have bus number 22 which stops right outside running every half an hour between Taunton and Wellington.

3. Do you have any parking facilities? We have parking free of charge on site in our 2 car parks. Our main car park is located near our production yard and we have a smaller car park with disabled spaces located at the front of our main building.

4. What is the refund policy? We are unable to refund any courses once they are booked.
