Shetland Fiddle Week | Acoustic Fiddles Concert | Wed 6 Aug 2025 | St Columba's, Lerwick

Join us for an acoustic concert highlighting the unique traditional fiddle music style of the Shetland Islands. Part of our week of events at Shetland Fiddle Week 2025, the concert will showcase a variety of Shetland fiddle talent with acoustic performances of distinct tunes and techniques that define Shetland's world renowned fiddle style.  

Developed over the past 250 years, Shetland's unique fiddle style and musical culture remains a living tradition, with hundreds of fiddle players living in the islands and playing regularly throughout the year. This concert will feature our tutors at Shetland Fiddle Week, who are leading our workshops teaching fiddlers from around the world. This year's tutors are Lois Nicol, Alison Anderson and Kirsten Hendry all with years of performing and teaching experience. You'll also get the chance to hear the winners of the 2025 Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year Competition, which takes place in April each year attracting close to 100 participants aded 16 and under. Also performing are Shetland's Heritage Fiddlers, all pupils of the late Dr Tom Anderson who is credited with the revival of Shetland fiddle music from 1960s through to 1980s.
