What to expect:
Experience the art of Shibari in a private, guided photo-shoot at Shibari Studio Berlin. Less “rope class,” more editorial shoot. We use rope as a styling line to shape the body, then let light do the magic. You experience the aesthetic of ropes on your body; we direct and create high-end artistic images. You leave with a polished, collectible timeless series of images.

“For me the essence of Shibari lies in the connection between the aesthetic expression and the emotional as well as sensual intention of the practice.”
– Dan Carabas
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
1. What exactly is Shibari?
Shibari is a traditional Japanese art of rope bondage — but in our studio, it's practiced as a form of bodywork, emotional release, and deep presence. It’s not about pain or domination, but about connection, surrender, and embodiment. You are held, not just physically, but emotionally.
2. Is Shibari sexual or erotic?
It can feel sensual or emotionally intense — but it is not inherently sexual. Our sessions are non-sexual in nature and based on trust, safety, and presence. The intention is grounding, mindful, and body-focused — not erotic performance
3. Do I need experience to book a session or shooting?
No experience at all is required. Many people come to us for the first time without knowing anything about ropes. Everything is explained gently, and the session moves at your pace. Your comfort and boundaries are always respected.
4. Will I be suspended in the air
Not necessarily. Rope suspension is only offered after you gathered some experience with your body in ropes and if it’s safe, desired, and appropriate for your body. Most sessions use floor-based techniques that are just as powerful and often even more grounding. This is not about performance — it’s about your experience.
5. What can I expect to feel?
Everyone’s experience is different, but common feelings include:
- Deep relaxation
- Emotional release
- Trance-like stillness
- A sense of being held and seen
- Reconnection with the body
Some call it a "rope high", or a "soul massage."
6. Disclaimer:
Dan is not a licensed therapist or medical professional. The Shibari sessions he offers are not a substitute for psychotherapy, medical treatment, or professional mental health support.
While the experience can be emotionally and physically meaningful, it is intended as a form of somatic and artistic exploration — not clinical therapy.
About Shibari Studio Berlin & the Instructor:
Shibari Studio Berlin is a dedicated space for Shibari workshops, Tantric-Shibari experiences, and private sessions in Berlin, founded in 2024 by multidisciplinary artist Dan Carabas.
The studio’s work focuses on intentional rope practice, embodied connection, and conscious intimacy, using Shibari and Kinbaku as tools for presence, communication, and trust. Experiences are designed for couples, individuals, and artists seeking a grounded, refined approach to rope — beyond technique or performance.
Dan Carabas has worked with Shibari and rope-based practices for over a decade alongside his internationally exhibited art project Metamorphic Sculptures. His teaching approach, often described as “the art of Shibari with intention,” emphasizes intimacy, awareness, and relational depth through rope.
