One Summer Evening. An immersive nature walk with Mark Cocker
Fri 14 Jun 2024 5:45 PM - 9:45 PM
Shimpling Park Farm, IP30 0JN
Description
Mark Cocker is one of Britain's foremost naturalists. Following his expert guidance, we will set off and spend the whole evening exploring the glorious range of plants, insects and animals living here at Shimpling Park Farm - an award-winning and regionally celebrated organic farm in Suffolk. Here food is grown by methods that replicate some of the ways of the natural ecosystem so it is hardly surprising that the fields, tracks and ancient woods are teeming with biodiversity.
We will start in the farm barns examining the contents of our moth trap, set the night before. Be prepared to be amazed by what lives all around our homes in the dead of night. Thereafter we go into the wider landscape to look for birds, insects, trees, bumblebees, dragonflies, plants, fungi - all that we can see, touch, hear, smell and taste. The aim of the evening is to awaken our sense of the miraculous in the every day world and to appreciate that everything which makes Attenborough in the Antarctic or the Amazon so special is here on a Suffolk farm.
The evening will include simple light refreshments and drinks en route.
This event precedes a full day’s nature writing workshop with Mark Cocker. Whilst stand alone events, both will definitely enhance each other if you want a really "deep dive".
This evening will involve walking on farm tracks and through woods. If you have accessibility issues or any allergies it is vital that we know before booking to ensure that we can support you in the safest and most enjoyable way possible. Please email us if this is the case. We will try our very hardest to accommodate. alice@shimplingparkfarm.co.uk
