Description
Instructor: Farren Maillie
I am a fiber artist specializing in all things squishy and wool. I am passionate about sustainable art and love creating nature inspired pieces with materials collected from our bountiful world. You are likely to find me in the forest looking for inspiration, fairy doors and gnomes.
I'm so excited to share this unique art from with you. Needle felting is a process that sculpts wool into any shape you imagine. Wool fibers are covered with scales. When you agitate the fibers, the scales lock together and thus, the felting occurs. In needle felting we use special barbed needles that lock the scales of the fiber together. What this looks like in real time, is stabbing fluffy colorful wool over and over with sharp needles. For this class, we will be creating pumpkins! We will be using a variety of fibers, including fiber from Marcia's beautiful alpacas! This is a beginner friendly class. Because this class is being held over the lunch hour, we encourage you to bring lunch and prepare to dine in the field with the alpacas around us. We have a refrigerator in the classroom or pack a small cooler.
Some parking is available at the top of the driveway. Overflow parking is at the bottom of the driveway near the alpaca field on the side where our sign is. We will have carrots available to treat the alpacas with as well.
