David Billesbach is a self-taught artist who has benefited from several formal learning experiences that helped launch and expand his knowledge of oil painting. In the early 90s, he studied drawing with Allison Stewart and oil painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in New Orleans, later returning to painting expressionistic faces under Daniel Loge in Grand Junction. In 2018, he studied plein air painting with impressionist artist Don Sahli, which expanded his use of color and impasto techniques. His paintings are subjective interpretations of inspirational compositions, both landscape and human, that express the essence of a moment using oil or acrylic paints to explore texture, color, motion, and lighting.
