Oil Pastels for Beginners (Rainbow Trout)

Catch and Keep: Pastel Trout

Oil pastel sticks, black paper, and blending that actually stays put once you press it in. This beginner-friendly class builds a rainbow trout in layers — laying down color, working it into the next, building up pigment until that iconic stripe down its side glows. Leave with a trout that's all yours, no fishing license required!

What You'll Learn:

• Building color in layers instead of blending everything at once
• Creating that signature trout stripe with color transitions
• Adding texture and speckling for a realistic finish
• Using highlights to make colors pop off dark paper

Perfect for:

• Complete beginners with no prior experience
• Anyone who loves the Ark, fly fishing, or just having fun with color
• Artists wanting to practice color blending and layering

Please note: The $30 class fee covers your instructor.

Sydni Ramsey has been drawing, painting, and scribbling since she could grip a crayon — her first-ever subject was Sonic the Hedgehog, back around 2003. She holds a degree in business administration, but rounded it out with figure drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and color theory, building on a high school career that included three art electives a day by senior year. When she's not creating, she's spending time with her husband (a musician) and their dog (a dedicated sniffer). She loves bright, vibrant color and doesn't take art — or much else — too seriously.
