Sat 15 Apr 2023 7:00 PM - Mon 24 Apr 2023 9:00 PM
York St John Chapel, YO31 7EX
Description
Join the choir of Sing for Pleasure for an evening of extraordinary music, presenting the works of two of the greatest composers in history, Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Joseph Haydn. Under the direction Manvinder Rattan, the choir and orchestra will display their exceptional talents, bringing these timeless compositions to life.
The concert program features Haydn's majestic 'Te Deum in C Hob. XXIIIc:2', a stunning choral masterpiece (relatively unknown) that exemplifies the composer's signature style. Joyful and exuberant, both choir and orchestra will transport the audience to 18th-century Austria with their rendition of this iconic work.
As the evening continues, the orchestra will perform Bach's 'Orchestral Suite No. 3 BWV 1068', a breathtaking piece regularly in Classic FM's Hall of Fame, highlighting Bach's genius and knowledge from across the continent. The suite's well-known movement 'Air on the G String' is bookended by the overture on one side and three traditional French dances, the Gavotte, Bourrée and Gigue, on the other.
The concert culminates with Bach's utterly brilliant 'Magnificat BWV 243', a choral masterpiece that displays the composer's skilled use of counterpoint and harmonic invention. This performance is not be missed, with talented soloists lending their voices to this exceptional work.
