The Art of Etching: From Plate to Print // A 6 Week Workshop with Artist Caoimhe Dalton // Starts Tuesday January 28th // 18:30 - 21:00

Discover the timeless art of etching in this six-week evening course, perfect for beginners. Each week, you will build on the skills and imagery developed in the previous session, gradually mastering the essentials of etching on copper, linework, and printing techniques.  

Inspired by the methods of the old masters like Rembrandt, participants will delve into the traditional craft of copper plate etching, enhanced with a modern, eco-friendly approach: electro-etching.  

This innovative technique retains the depth and precision of classical methods while embracing sustainability. By the end of the course, you will leave with your own edition of prints and an understanding of the art of printmaking.  All necessary printing materials will be provided. A short list of suggested materials will be provided before the course begins.

Artist Bio:

Caoimhe Dalton describes herself as a printmaker first and an artist second. She trained as a printmaker and graduated with Honours from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. Caoimhe has also studied Fine Arts in Academie Minerva in the Netherlands and classical arts in the Barcelona Academy of Art. 

She has been an active member of Black Church Print Studio in Dublin since winning the John Kelly RHA Award in 2019 and currently runs workshops on the studios teaching board. She more recently received the Irish Print Network Purchase Prize and has work in private and state collections. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including in the Print Centre in New York and her practice focuses on hands-on, manual processes such as intaglio printmaking, lithography, monotype and painting.
