The last Mountain Day of 2023! 

The Tarmachan ridge is one of the best ridge walks in Scotland, and around 2 hours drive from the central belt, near the pretty village of Killin.

On this guided walk we'll ascend Meall nan Tarmachan (which is regarded as an "easy" Munro given that the walk starts at 400m and the climb is therefore relatively short to it's summit at 1043m) and then follow the exciting rocky ridge traverse, with only one short mildly exposed section and an avoidable short scramble.

Key information:

• Start/finish: Ben Lawers car park (car share from Glasgow or Stirling available)
  
• Walking duration: approx 7 hours (with breaks)
  
• Ascent: 800m approx*
• Distance: 13km/8 miles*
• Terrain: Good path to Munro summit and along ridge. Meall Garbh has a narrow ridge and an avoidable rocky scramble on the descent. After leaving the ridge the route crosses rough, boggy ground. Finish on good track.

*Please note that the route may be altered to accommodate weather conditions and other factors.

What to expect:

This is a longer day in the mountains for those who have some (but not necessarily lots of) experience of hill walking and are comfortable walking for up to 7 hours on rocky and rough paths, with lots of uphill and downhill. The final route will be determined by the weather conditions.

Timings allow for several breaks to eat, drink and to take photographs.
