About this event
SLA Europe is delighted to present this hybrid event, featuring three published authors from within our membership. This event will be a panel-style discussion, chaired by our current President, Claire Sewell, with Helen Lippell and Amy Stubbing, whose respective books were published earlier this year.
Our speakers will be sharing their experiences and challenges from their publishing journeys, and how they tackled the writing process, as well as sharing advice for other practitioners interested in starting their publishing journey. There will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end of talk.
This event is being kindly hosted at CILIP offices in Ridgmount Street and sponsored by Facet Publishing.
Please note: We can also confirm that this event is being recorded and will be shared on our YouTube channel. You do not need to have registered to access the recording.
Note for attendees
We would advise in-person attendees to arrive promptly by 6:30pm. There will be an opportunity to network with our speakers and other attendees following the event with drinks and nibbles provided, as well as a stall available to purchase our speakers' books with a discount.
About our speakers
Claire Sewell is the Research Support Librarian for the Physical Sciences at the University of Cambridge. In this role she oversees the support offered to the research community across the disciplines and specialises in developing innovative, point of need training initiatives. Prior to this she worked as the Research Support Skills Coordinator in the Cambridge Office of Scholarly Communication where she worked to ensure that all library staff were best placed to support the growing needs of the research community. Claire received her MSc in Library and Information Studies from the University of Aberystwyth in 2013 and achieved CILIP Chartership in 2014. She is the author of “The No-Nonsense Guide to Research Support and Scholarly Communication” from Facet Publishing and is currently serving as SLA Europe President 2022.
Helen Lippell is a taxonomy consultant with more than 15 years of experience in the field. Her clients have included Electronic Arts, Pearson, the BBC, the Department for International Trade, the Financial Times, Philips, and the Metropolitan Police. She has been the programme chair of Taxonomy Boot Camp London since its inception in 2016, and speaks and writes regularly for taxonomy practitioners. She is the author of "Taxonomies: Practical Approaches to Developing and Managing Vocabularies for Digital Information" from Facet Publishing.
Amy
Stubbing has had a varied career across different sectors, and has held
roles in areas including
collection management, customer services, and library management. She
is currently Academic Engagement Lead at University of Westminster where
she is responsible for strategic planning and development of the
learning support provision for the university, including
academic liaison and academic learning development. Previous roles
include Campus Library Manager at University of East London, and the
Library Customer Care Collections Coordinator at Royal Holloway
University. Amy's
interest in data and using it to inform service decisions and
developments to improve user experience has been a core part of her
career. She has a particular
passion for developing data literacy and embedding data practices into
all decision making, which led to her developing her Data Driven
Decisions toolkit for libraries. She has worked with numerous university
libraries to begin working towards embedding a
culture of data-driven decisions, and has used her varied experience of
teaching data literacy to further develop her toolkit, culminating in
this book.
