Film Premiere: Dumuzi's Dream and Dumuzi's Demons
You are invited to a première of the film Dumuzi's Dream and Dumuzi's Demons, performed by Trinity students in the ancient Sumerian language. The film was directed and produced by Martin Worthington, and stars Olivia Romao (4th year Music) and Gwenhwyfar Ferch Rhys (4th year English/Classics). The film will be screened with English subtitles.
The film dramatises a religious myth from Ancient Mesopotamia, in which the shepherd-god Dumuzi is carried away by underworld demons. The story opens with Dumuzi having an ill-portending dream, which is interpreted by his sister Ĝeštinana to mean that the demons are coming. After a betrayal by a friend, Dumuzi is caught. Appeals to the sun-god Utu secure his escape multiple times, but in the end night falls and destiny awaits him ...
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the actors and production team.
This public screening will take place in the Edmund Burke Lecture Theatre, Arts Building, Trinity College Dublin.
