Panel Discussion with Baroness Hale of Richmond,
Lesley Fairclough, President of the Newcastle & North of England Law
Society,
members of the Judiciary and local lawyers
On the evening of Thursday 24th September 2026, join Lady Hale, the President of the Newcastle and North of England Law Society, Lesley Fairclough, members of the Judiciary and lawyers from the region for an evening of networking and panel discussions reflecting on and celebrating a range of remarkable and diverse legal careers.
At the event, to be held at Trinity Chambers' Custom House on Newcastle's Quayside, Lady Hale will share her story of her early life and time at the Bar, as well as the many historic firsts that shaped her journey, including becoming the first woman appointed to the Law Commission, the only woman appointed as a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, and ultimately President of the Supreme Court.
The Panel discussion will build on those themes, exploring the experiences of lawyers at different stages of their careers, the barriers they have faced, the resilience required to progress, and the importance of opportunity, support and determination within the profession.
As well as a welcome opportunity to catch up with industry colleagues, the event will support Smart Works North East. Through the provision of high-quality clothing and tailored one-to-one coaching, Smart Works helps unemployed women unlock their potential, secure employment, and transform their lives. Those attending are invited to bring high quality work wear to donate to the charity and each ticket comes with an optional donation to the charity.
