The coaches
Led by LTA qualified coaches who specialise in providing coaching for primary and secondary schools in the local area. All lead coaches are DBS checked and First Aid Trained. There will also be additional coach assistants if the numbers require, to ensure good coach: child ratios.
Caroline Neil-Dwyer, 30 years experience of coaching, is the founder of Smashing Tennis. Current schools: Great Kingshill Primary; RGS High Wycombe; Wycombe High; Pipers Corner; Cedar Park. Also senior coach at Wycombe Abbey, and coaches at Hazlemere tennis club. Still playing competitively for Bucks and Halton Tennis club first team.
What to expect:
3-5 year olds: The coaching for Pre-School and new Reception children will ensure your children develop their Agility, Balance and Coordination skills (ABC'S), while having fun and learning basic racquet skills. Softer balls gives children a chance to gain confidence in their skills and to learn the techniques. Children will become familiar with holding and using the racquet, they will learn sending and receiving skills through games and using varied equipment including bean bags, juggle squares, balloon balls, hoops, catch nets and hitting tees. It is game based and having fun is key. Sessions run for 35-40 minutes and all equipment is provided.
5-11 year olds: Again developing the ABC's and learning the basic shots of the game, as well as developing their hand eye coordination, tennis techniques, basic grips, and moving to some rally based games with opportunities for point play for those that are ready. Games will also feature in every session and build on the learning points and themes of the session. The course will aim to improve social skills, self confidence and provide many fun games and activities.
12-17 year olds: Match and point play, tactics and fun games. It provides a chance to mix with others their age whilst staying healthy and keeping your children playing sports for longer. Tennis is a fantastic way to meet new people and by giving your children a chance to learn these skills and grown in confidence on court, will help their confidence to join clubs in the future.
Equipment
All equipment is provided, but if you do have your own racquet, please do bring it. You just need a drink, a snack (Nut Free please!), a racquet if you own one and suitable trainers and clothes for the weather. I have plenty of spare racquets available.
