Dental BLS & Medical Emergencies Training for Dental Care Professionals

Our Dental Basic Life Support (BLS) and Medical Emergencies Course is designed specifically for Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) and all members of the dental team across the UK. This is a face-to-face course that provides practical, hands-on training and is not delivered online.

Course Aim

To develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to recognise, assess, and manage medical emergencies within the primary care dental setting.

Course Objectives

During this course you will learn how to:

• Carry out an urgent assessment of a patient who has become unwell.
• Recognise and manage common medical emergencies in the dental practice.
• Perform Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with the latest UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
• Safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
• Understand the safe and effective use of emergency drugs and equipment commonly found in a dental practice.
• Work effectively as part of the dental team during a medical emergency.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

• Recognise medical emergencies that require escalation and take appropriate action to preserve life.
• Demonstrate Basic Life Support (BLS) for adult cardiac arrest in line with current UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
• Identify emergency drugs used within the dental setting and understand when and how they should be administered (where appropriate).
• Apply effective teamwork principles to manage medical emergencies promptly, safely, and confidently.

GDC Development Outcome

This verifiable CPD course meets the General Dental Council (GDC) Development Outcome C.
