"Hazel Findlay is one of the world’s greatest climbers, with a slew of first ascents, first female ascents, and more achievements to her name.” - Climbing.com
In this talk, Hazel explores the biggest internal battles she’s faced throughout her climbing career, and how learning to work with them rather than against them changed everything. Drawing on stories from some of her most demanding ascents and remote expeditions — including a climbing trip to Greenland with Alex Honnold — Hazel looks beyond the physical challenge to the psychological ‘walls within’ that shape performance, fear, and decision-making.
She explores themes many of us recognise, whether we climb or not: imposter syndrome, fear of failure, distraction, pressure, and the challenge of sustaining motivation over time. Rather than offering quick fixes, Hazel reflects on what it actually takes to meet fear honestly, stay present under pressure, and continue showing up when things feel uncertain.
Hazel Findlay is one of Britain’s most respected climbers, renowned for her bold trad ascents and technical mastery. She has redpointed some of the UK’s hardest trad routes, including E9 6c climbs, completed challenging aid and big wall climbs overseas, and tackled remote expeditions such as Greenland alongside Alex Honnold. Her achievements have cemented her reputation as one of the leading figures in modern British climbing.
