Calling all storm seekers, weather feelers and body shakers for an evening of SOAK Live Art!

SOAK present an exciting line-up of local performance artists exploring the body, work and weather in uncertain times. Join us on a journey across sound, movement and light, enter the eye of the storm and try your luck with a tarot deck for changing climates.

Featuring five new performances: NooN Collective’s St0rm is a unique experience for players and audience exploring energetic synergies between light, sound and movement. Dong Yue’s Silk-like Body examines questions of female identity, lived experience and cultural ideals in Chinese Classical Dance alongside the artist’s embodied memories and lived experiences. Claudia Jefferies’ WORK exposes the absurdities of work and examines how it shapes behaviour. Laura Denning’s A Tarot of the Weather blends chance, climate and playful participation, to consider future relationships with an unpredictable world. Gaia Blandina’s sonic journey asks why some things disappear, what the sea carries away and what might be brought back. Together, we invite you to encounter a performative space of playful discovery.

Artist Bios:

NooN are an experimental collective creating performances and works that amplify the more-than-human, with an interdisciplinary practice that spans music, dance, projection, generative visuals / technology, and material practices.

Claudia Jefferies is a Plymouth-based Theatre Maker, Writer and Performer. Her work cross-references multiple genres and performance styles to highlight and critique everyday social injustices. She works across a variety of performance styles from naturalistic acting to clowning, drag, spoken word, and performance lecture.

Laura Denning is a transdisciplinary artist, writer, and academic whose practice merges geography and ecology. Her work emphasises watery relationality, climate change, and deep-time environments. She explores entanglements between ecologies and environments and ways in which the human and the more than human intersect.

DY (Dong Yue) is a dance researcher, teacher and choreographer with professional experience in Chinese Classical Dance. She is currently completing a PhD in Dance at the University of Plymouth. Her research and creative practice explore the relationships between dance training, women’s bodies and lived experience.

Gaia Blandina is a cellist, interdisciplinary sound artist, and Lecturer in Music at Falmouth University. As a performer, her specialism is in free improvisation, devising, and contemporary music. Her wider practice brings together sound, found objects, performance, walking, and participation. She creates open-ended conditions and systems rather than predetermined outcomes, exploring what emerges through different encounters and processes.

SOAK Live Art CIC:

SOAK stands for: Support Our Artist Kin. SOAK is a platform for multidisciplinary performance work by South West artists. We run regular performance nights to showcase new performance art, poetry, dance and sound practices. We also hold workshops and events that foster creative dialogue and experimentation across art forms. Our focus is on quality work that nurtures a spirit of play and collaboration between artists and audiences so that new ideas can emerge.
