Sashiko-Style Visible Mending and Embellishment Workshop.
This hands-on workshop invites you to slow down, reconnect, and experience the satisfaction of mending or customizing your own clothing by transforming wear and tear with intention, making each piece uniquely yours.
Host: Izador (Izzy) Goldbear | mrgoldbear.com | @mr_goldbear
Join Izzy for a 90-minute exploration of sashiko—the Japanese art of functional decorative stitching. Bring a piece of fabric you'd like to mend or embellish—whether it's a garment needing a patch, a textile ready for transformation, or simply something you'd like to practice on. No experience necessary. Izzy will walk you through basic stitching techniques, making this accessible whether you're picking up a needle for the first time or looking to deepen your practice.
What We'll Cover:
- Foundational sashiko stitches and hand-sewing basics
- Classic geometric patterns
- Contemporary interpretations and creative applications
- Stitching safety—because mindfully caring for your fingers is part of the craft
What to Bring:
- 1–2 items of clothing or fabric you'd like to stitch on
- Needles, sewing scissors, thimbles, and thread (sashiko or embroidery thread both work) if you have them
- Curiosity and a desire to learn a new skill in community
What's Provided:
- Fabric, needles, scissors, and thread for use during the workshop if you didn't bring your own
- Tea and snacks courtesy of Social Good Place
About Izzy: Izzy is a stylist who believes getting dressed should feel like coming home to yourself. With a collaborative, intuitive approach, Izzy helps clients find pieces that reflect their story, rhythm, and the way they move through the world. Blending Eastern and Western influences, Izzy often transforms vintage Western wear into loose, flowy silhouettes inspired by kimonos and haoris—balancing structure and ease, comfort and expression, tradition and individuality. The goal is always the same: to help you feel seen, grounded, and genuinely yourself in what you wear.
