Walk & Talk: Hilbre Island

Sun 17 Aug 2025 10:40 AM - 1:30 PM West Kirby Train Station, CH48 4DZ

We're looking forward to walking and talking our way over to Hilbre Island!

With huge thanks to Michael VJ Jones for helping to make sure we get there and The Friends of Hilbre Island who will also be holding one of their open days and seal watches on the island on the 17th, 10:30 - 3pm.

Who can attend?

This will be a really informal event for anyone who wants to meet new people while chatting all things people, planet and sustainably. Or anyone who simply fancies a bit of an adventure and some company. Feel free to bring friends and family along!

What will the day look like?

  • We'll meet at 10:40am at West Kirkby train station - there's a train that gets in from Liverpool Central at 10:37am which a few of us will be on.
  • We'll head over to the island together.
  • Then it'll be up to you how long you'd like to stay for, you might fancy taking a picnic over and staying for a while.
  • We'll play it by ear and agree return times on the day, if the weather's nice it's likely we'll be about an hr on the island before wandering back to mainland.
  • It's about a two-mile walk each way, which we assume will take about an hr.

What will you need to bring?

  • Please dress responsibly, being a coastal location, the weather can change quickly over on the island. It's best to bring some layers so you have something warm and dry should it get a little wet and / or chilly.
  • Sensible footwear is advised, we will be doing a couple of hrs of walking so please wear something comfortable.
  • Water, snacks and lunch, if you're planning to stay over a little longer to have a picnic. There are no shops or public access to fresh water on the island.

To note, there are only two very basic composting toilets on the island.

At Your Own Risk

While we'll be walking with experienced walkers and have coincided this walk with the The Friend's of Hilbre Island open day - a group of people who understand the tides and when best to access the island - it's important to note that you will be responsible for your own safety during this trip. Please follow advice given, stick to the route advised and use your common sense.
