Foraging for Beginners
Foraging for Beginners
We're looking forward to wandering from familiar paths in South Liverpool to learn about some of the tasty (and not so tasty) plants we often walk past, with thanks to Val who'll be sharing her expertise with us.
This will be a short foraging workshop, open to everyone, with no experience needed :)
Who can attend?
This will be an informal event for anyone who wants to meet new people while chatting all things people, planet and local plants! Or anyone who simply fancies trying something new and being in great company. Feel free to bring friends and family along!
What will the morning look like?
It'll be a Lark Lane market day, so you're welcome to pick up some tasty, local snacks before coming to meet us.
- We'll either meet in Sefton Park (Lark Lane entrance) OR St Michael's station, depending on where's looking most interesting - we'll let you know at least a couple of days in advance.
- Val will give a short introduction before we start foraging!
- We're expecting to identify an interesting handful of edible plants during about a 90 mins explore, and you're welcome to stay as for as long or little as you like.
What will you need to bring?
- Please consider the weather and dress responsibly.
- It's likely that we will be venturing from paths from time-to-time, so sensible and comfortable footwear is advised.
- Feel free to bring some foraging gear if you have some (gloves, pocket knife, bags or containers). If you'd like to enjoy a foraged brew, bring a thermos of hot water to which we'll be adding a few leaves along the way.
- Water and snacks (and picnic - Sefton Park is a great place for a picnic if you want to stick around after this walk and make a day of it!)
Ticket Sales
All takings for this event will be donated to the MerseyWilders, a brilliant local youth-led climate and nature advocacy group.
At Your Own Risk
While we'll be walking with an experienced forager who will guide you on what to identify, harvest, and avoid, it's important to note that you will be responsible for your own safety during this walk. Please follow the guidance given, only pick what you've been shown and are confident identifying, and use your common sense. Never eat anything you're not completely sure about.
Photos
We'll be taking photos throughout the morning which may be shared on social media and used for other marketing materials. If you'd rather not be captured in these, just let us know on the day and we'll make sure to keep you out of shot.
