Solid Joy presents: MAY DAY

Fri 1 May 2026 8:00 PM - 2:00 AM The Old Print Works, B12 9AH

Solid Joy returns on May Day!

20:00 - 02:00 music, dancing, bar, snacks.

There will be:

  • PoC and Queer-frendly security
  • non-alcoholic drinks and booze at the bar
  • Some snacks

The first of May is a day steeped in history. Ancient folk festivals, spring celebrations and workers coming together to demand change. So when we saw May Day was falling on a Friday, we felt obliged to throw a joyous party - to welcome Spring, and to honour the struggle for a better world!

We'd love people to dress in a way which celebrates Mayday! This could be something with flowers or garlands, or maybe a revolutionary figure from our shared history.

Its going to be a banger. The DJ line-up is, quite frankly, amazing:

We'll be raising money for Cooperation Birmingham and another local organisation doing incredible work supporting refugees. There'll be booze, food and a good selection of soft drinks.

Expect the usual good vibes + some surprises! We are working to create interactive art, so that as well as remembering the achievements of the historic left, we can come together to help shape the demands of the present.

The aim of this event is to raise money, but joy should be available everyone. If you can’t afford it, let us know and you can come for free, no questions asked.

Homophobia, misogyny, racism, transphobia and any other forms of discrimination are not welcome at Solid Joy. This is a space where we will act in kindness, care, solidarity with each other.

Access Info: The venue is ground floor, with level, wheelchair accessible entrances/exits. The floor is hard concrete. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet. There are gender-badged loos with either stalls or stalls&urinals - use whichever makes sense to you! The event will involve loud music in a fairly dark room with some pulsing/changing lights. Guests can flow freely from the inside space (loud) to the outside space (quieter and covered). Ear plugs will be available. Alcohol is on sale, but lots of people in the room wont be drinking.

Please get in touch if you have any other access questions: solidjoy@protonmail.com
