Green Monday: Closing the Gap – Turning Sustainability Strategy into Everyday Employee Action

Sustainability strategies can look clear on paper, yet feel anything but clear in the day to day. Teams are already overloaded with information, priorities and internal messaging which makes it harder for people to know what to do, when to do it and how it fits into their role. So even when employees care, there is still a gap between intention and action.
This session explores what gets lost in the noise, why people struggle to act and what it takes to make sustainability feel practical and relatable for busy teams. It’s ideal for anyone in sustainability, communications, HR or culture who wants to help people understand, believe and act on sustainability in a meaningful way.
We’re delighted to be joined by two experienced voices who work at the intersection of sustainability and communication:
- Karen Richards is a Communications Director with 20 years of experience spanning media relations, corporate communications, crisis and issues management and senior advisory roles at organisations including Unilever and WWF.
- Victoria Page is an award winning business and sustainability strategist who helps leaders build organisations that create long-term value, working across sectors from hospitality and FMCG to energy and retail.
They will share insight and practical examples across two core themes:
Closing the gap between strategy and behaviour
- The difference between the action gap and the attitude gap
- Why people care but still struggle to act
- How leadership credibility strengthens follow through
- Why sustainability needs to be explained in practical, relatable terms
Less is More
- How overloaded communication makes sustainability harder to live day to day
- Making sustainability relevant to each role and responsibility
- Practical examples that help employees connect goals with their own actions
- What “less is more” looks like in practice so messages land and behaviours stick
You’ll leave with practical insight on how to navigate communication overload and turn sustainability commitments into consistent, meaningful action.
About Green Monday
The third Monday in January is widely known as Blue Monday, often labelled the most depressing day of the year. Three years ago, we decided to flip that narrative. Green Monday is our antidote - a day dedicated to sustainability, fresh thinking and positive action. Each year we bring people together for conversations that spark practical ideas and drive progress.
