THE WORKSHOP
Following the success of the SILLY BITCH and BEAUTIFUL FOOLS workshop series in Oslo, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, SOMEWHERE BETWEEN is now teaching in London! Come and learn about playfulness and clowning in this 3 hour workshop - see that you can be both a powerful human and a beautiful fool! This workshop is suitable for all those who want to understand what makes them uniquely ridiculous, whether you are totally new to clowning or already have a bit of experience. From actors to improvisers, performers or not, clowning and playful practice can help participants learn to follow their intuition, shed societal expectations, joyfully accept failure and find more freedom.
Taught by Scottish Gaulier-trained performer, director and clown Izzy Stott, this workshop will be an introduction to clown, which will help you discover your own innocent idiocy through a series of games and exercises. The purpose of this workshop is to create a safe space to play, explore and discover your ridiculousness. Please come with an open mind and heart.
ABOUT IZZY STOTT
Izzy is a multidisciplinary
artist, performer and workshop facilitator based in Glasgow, focusing on
contemporary performance, bouffon, drag and clown. She trained at Ecole Philippe Gaulier,
and believes that being playful and free whilst creating is the only
way to fully release the body and mind's potential to eternally
question, react, move, and hopefully, move others. Izzy's socially
engaged arts practice focuses on empowerment and interactive
performance. She runs SOMEWHERE BETWEEN - a femme/queer performance
production company which aims to produce, create and facilitate new
innovative and uniquely styled work, as well as teach, host workshops
and work with marginalised groups in society, making theatre accessible
to all. Izzy is also co-creator of SHIITAKE NIGHTS, Glasgow Southside’s
SELL-OUT absurd cabaret. Her workshops centre clowning and playful
practice through a psychological lens, exploring vulnerability, failure,
self-acceptance and resilience. She has created and performed original
work and hosted cabarets at Edinburgh, Brighton and Prague Fringe
Festivals and Queer Theory as well as at Eden and Kelburn festivals.
(You may have seen her as GÜNTER or as a banana that eats bananas.)
ABOUT SOMEWHERE BETWEEN
SOMEWHERE
BETWEEN is a feminist and queer creative production company born in
Glasgow, based in London, working with new, innovative theatre and absurd comedy. We
create, produce, facilitate, host and teach. We believe in theatre for
all, and specialise in working with marginalised groups in society,
helping the wider community to communicate and share. We like work that
is ridiculous, bold, beautiful, honest, with a strong sense of
personality.

“I benefited from the relaxed safe space where I could be myself and feel free. The teaching was supportive and nurturing. The combination of teaching, experience and the people I met there has, I think, allowed me to feel a greater sense of freedom and possibility.”
(Workshop Participant, BEAUTIFUL FOOLS)
“Izzy's clowning classes have been transformational for me! Learning to really engage with the audience, leaning into the flop... it can make you feel bulletproof. I've grown in confidence and reconnected with who I am, after I had got lost along the way. Izzy is a really supportive teacher - lucky London!” (BEAUTIFUL FOOLS Participant, Levels 1 + 2, Glasgow, 2024 - 2026)
